Indoor Lighting Skylighting
Most indoors (homes, offices, etc.), for various reasons including renovations, have poor lighting in certain parts, from rooms through passages to dressing areas, prompting the occupant to use electricity and incurring costs due to the ever-increasing Eskom rates and globe prices. Electrity supply has become an established challenge therefore occupants are plunged into dark areas.
We provide a return on investment by installing skylights that bring natural lighting into those areas, and you have the extra luxury of seeing the sky or rain through these skylights if so desired.
The are 2 types of skylights that bring natural lighting into those dark & depressing areas:
- Tubular Skylight – consists of a dome on the roof for light entrance followed by a circular foil that is usually reflecting for light transference into the interior and a circular transparent cover on the ceiling.
The height from the ceiling to the roof is a pricing factor because an extra tube(s) may be required.
- Box Skylight – consists of flat glass, dome or any single shape-type skylight of choice on the roof followed by a box made of painted rhino board that runs from the skylight to the opening on the ceiling that can be left open so the client can see the inside of the installation and the sky. The position of the Box Skylight in the room is dictated by the configuration of rafters that should be at least 600mm apart with no impediments such as electrical wiring, plumbing, etc.
These 2 types of natural lighting skylights are applicable to ceilinged areas. Non-ceilinged rooms can just have the skylight on the roof….no tubing and no boxing.
